The Highlanders marched into the Astros High School Classic as contenders, but walked out champions on Saturday night as The Woodlands topped defending state champion Kingwood 9-1 at Minute Maid Park.

Pitcher Brett Eibner was on the mound and left a dominating impression for only having pitched four innings. Eibner struck out three batters, gave up three hits and three walks, but only allowed one run in Saturday's win.
The Woodlands offensive outing started from the beginning as David Alleman hit a double to left field and was sent home by Paul Goldschmidt who hit an RBI single for the only score in the bottom of the first.
The Highlander's most explosive inning came in the second as The Woodlands scored six runs. Derek Smith started the output as he hit a single to center field, Kyle Drabek walked, and Goldschmidt hit an RBI single to left field to score Smith. Drabeck was sent home after Mickey Armstrong had an RBI single to center field, Taylor Grote had a two-RBI triple to center, Tim Schneider doubled to center field and was sent home after Cody Harmon struck an RBI single to left field.
Highlander Taylor Grote led The Woodlands in hits, going 2-3 for the night, hitting a triple with three RBI's and hitting an inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning.
David Alleman followed Grote also going 2-3, while hitting one double scoring one run and Paul Goldschmidt went 2-3 with two RBI's and scored one run.
The win elevated The Woodlands record to 13-1 overall, and the Highlanders will travel to Oak Ridge this Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Conroe's Tiger baseball team continued to rest several starters and continued their losing streak on Saturday by dropping two more games in the final day of play of the Pflugerville Connally Classic to bring their record to 0-5 for the trip.
"It was a rough weekend," said Conroe head coach Frank Romero. "We were kind of a little banged up when we came this way. We held a couple of guys out, and we wanted to get some continuity this weekend."
Conroe's first loss on Saturday came from Larado United, who topped the Tigers 9-2 in early action. Kyle Klovensky was on the mound for the Tigers and threw for four and two-thirds innings, striking out two batters, while giving up six hits.
Jeremy Warren lead the way offensively going two for three with a triple, while teammate Andrew Cooley was 1-2 with a double and an RBI.
Conroe's second loss came from host Pflugerville Connally, who topped Conroe 4-2 on Saturday night.
Nick Kazole pitched five innings for Conroe, giving up six hits, striking out two batters, giving up no walks before Nick Reed relieved Kazole for one inning giving up no hits and no runs.
Reed also delivered with his bat, leading the Tigers with two hits, while Chet Reed went 1-2 driving in Conroe's only two runs with a single in the fourth inning.
Romero attributed the losses over the weekend to not capitalizing on scoring opportunities while runners were in position. He added that he was glad to have other players reach the field and hopes the team can improve and be healthy for their next district game this Tuesday at Klein.
"Our whole goal is to play better heading into our second game in district schedule and we didn't do that, but it gave some of the backup guys some time to play and we were in some close ball games," Romero said. "You can only practice and simulate that a few times. There's no substitute for that. Hopefully this can be something we can learn from as we start district."
Conroe's game at Klein starts this Tuesday at 7 p.m.
