The Highlanders will play the Eagles today at 7:30 p.m. at Bryan High School's field. The teams will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at A&M Consolidated High School. If a third game is necessary, it will be played at 1 p.m. Saturday at A&M Consolidated.
Sophomore Tyler Spurlin got the start in the third game and the Dragons touched him up for two runs in the top of the second.
The Highlanders responded with a five run outburst in the bottom of the frame. Brett Parsons led off with a walk and advanced to second when Ryan Mooney was hit with a pitch. David Alleman doubled to left, scoring Parsons. Colby Dodson singled up the middle to plate Mooney with the trying run. Brett Eibner gave the Highlanders the lead for good with a three-run shot over the left field fence.
Round Rock got to Spurlin for a lead off double and a two-run homerun in the top of the third. But that was pretty much the Dragons last hurrah for the season. Spurlin only gave up two hits over the last four innings while the Highlanders added to their lead.
The Woodlands got one back in the bottom of the third on Parsons' single and Mooney's double to center.
The Highlanders scored twice in the fifth to all but put the game away. Mickey Armstrong started the inning with a walk. Jake Carlson ran for the catcher and went all the way to third when the Dragon second baseman threw Parsons' ground ball into left field. Parsons advanced to second on the play and Grant Gullo ran for him. Mooney singled up the middle to bring both runners home.
Round Rock loaded the bases with two outs in the seventh, but Spurlin got a ground ball to Tim Schneider at third to end the game.
"Round Rock is a great team," Eastman said. "They beat us easily in the first game in March. Texas High School playoffs are crazy. I'm so proud of these guys to come back after a loss last night and get the win today against a great team. It's a shame we had to meet so early in the playoffs.
"It was a tough decision between Tyler and Colton (McKey). But, it was good to have a senior in the bullpen. We hoped to get four innings out of Tyler, but he just got stronger. The only inning he struggled was the seventh and it's hot out here and he hasn't thrown that many innings. But he fought through it and got the win."
The series started with The Woodlands winning a long lightning delayed game 3-1 on Thursday night. Round Rock came back to even the series and force a third game with a 6-5 win Friday night.
