2007 Higlander Baseball Golf Tournament
Monday, December 3rd, 2007

The Home Run Club will be hosting a golf tournament on Monday, December 3rd at Canongate at The Woodlands – The Oaks Course.  The tournament format will be a 4-Man Florida Scramble with a shotgun start at 12:30 PM.  Registration will begin at 11:30 AM. We are asking every family to put together a foursome with your friends and colleagues, and come out and play in the tournament.  More information

2007 Field of Dreams Holiday Baseball Camp
Highlander Head Coach Ron Eastman and members of his staff will conduct a Holiday Baseball Camp this December at Scotland Yard.  The camp will be for area youth in grades 1-6 and will emphasize skills and preparation for tryouts.  The camp will be offered in two one-day sessions on December 20th and 21st.

Phillies Notes | Drabek done for a year with injury
SAN DIEGO - The Phillies suffered a major blow yesterday, but they say they don't think it's fatal. They announced that righthander Kyle Drabek, the team's No. 1 draft pick in 2006 and the organization's No. 2 prospect according to Baseball America, will undergo Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Wednesday in New York. .   More...

Three from TWHS head to Sam Houston
Three former The Woodlands High School baseball players, all part of their 2006 5-A Championship team, are signed to become Sam Houston State Bearkats this fall. Right-handed pitcher Jerad Stevens, shortstop Ryan Mooney, and third basemen Tim Schneider have all signed their letters of intent to play for Coach Mark Johnson at Sam Houston State University.     More...

All-state baseball team announced
Nine Montgomery County high school standouts, including six from The Woodlands, earned their way onto the 2007 Texas Sports Writer's Association All-State Baseball Teams. The Woodlands, which made it to the regional quarterfinals, has a pair of third-team all-state players in catcher Mickey Armstrong (.355) and outfielder Brett Eibner (.417, 6 HRs). Eibner was the fourth-round pick of the Houston Astros as a pitching prospect, while Armstrong is headed to Texas Tech on a baseball scholarship.   More...

Recent The Woodlands High School graduate Tim Schneider was one of the leading hitters in the greater Houston area this spring. Schneider, who will compete collegiately at Sam Houston State University with teammates Jerad Stevens and Ryan Mooney, led the Highlanders with a .422 average.   More...

Big time: Hometown standouts make splash in draft
It might not have gone exactly according to plan, but two The Woodlands High School baseball stars were selected in the recent Major League Baseball draft. Brett Eibner was picked by the Houston Astros in the fourth round, while Taylor Grote went to the New York Yankees in the eighth round.   More...

ROUND ROCK - The Woodlands baseball team has been crowned with a bevy of honors during its 2006 season: District champs, top team in Texas and top team in the nation, to name a few. On Saturday the Highlanders made the latter one official, clinching their second Class 5A State Championship with a 5-3 victory over Houston-area nemesis Katy at the Dell Diamond.

2006 Scotland Yard Spring Tournaments
Highlander Baseball will be hosting two tournaments at Scotland Yard this Spring.  The Woodlands/Oak Ridge Varsity Invitational is planned for February 23-25 and will host teams from Austin Bowie, Leander, Baytown Lee, Magnolia and several other 5A schools.  The Junior Varsity Round Robin is planned for March 9-11 and will feature Tomball, Bellaire, Klein and Conroe High Schools.

Scotland Yard Nominated for National Field of the Year
Scotland Yard has been nominated as one of eight finalist for the High School Field of the Year by the High School Baseball Coaches Association (BCA).  Head Coach Ron Eastman will attend the National Convention this year in Louisville, KY, and the winner will be announced on December 3rd at the convention's awards luncheon.

Former TWHS baseball coach takes top position at Lamar
A familiar face to Montgomery County baseball fans has decided to rejoin the high school coaching ranks five years after bringing a state crown to The Woodlands. Mike McGilvray, who has served as the volunteer assistant coach at Sam Houston State Univ the past two seasons, stepped down soon after taking an underdog Highlander team to the state crown in 2000.   More...

The Woodlands High School's Kyle Drabek has been named the Class 5A player of the year for the state by the Texas Sports Writer Association. On a day when he helped The Woodlands 7-on-7 football team reach the quarterfinals of the state tournament, Kyle Drabek was honored for his baseball exploits by being named the Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 5A player of the year.   More...

Drew Dickson (2002) Signs With The Chicago Cubs
TWHS Class of 2002 standout, Drew Dickson, signed with the Chicago Cubs on June 24th and is now pitching with the Cubs’ Class “A” ball club, Peoria Chiefs, in Peoria, Illinois. Drew has been pitching in a mid-reliever role and already has 5 appearances and a respectable 2.45 ERA in his first two weeks with the club. The Chiefs website is www.PeoriaChiefs.com.

Varsity Dominates Bellaire 13-5 on Challenger Day at Scotland Yard
The Highlander Varsity celebrated a 13-5 win over the Bellaire Cardinals on the 4th Annual Challenger Day at Scotland Yard.  While eight Highlanders had hits in the game, a home run by Sophomore Brett Parsons and a grand slam by Taylor Davis highlighted the offense.  Steven Maxwell got the win in the game, and had help from Brice Ary and Charlie Aceto on the mound.  LineScore  Chronicle   Courier

Orwall Challenger to Participate in 2nd Annual East Texas Jamboree  -- Orwall Challenger plans to send a team to participate in the 2nd Annual East Texas Jamboree in Clear Lake on Saturday, June 11th.  The Jamboree hosts Challenger teams from across the east half of the State, and includes games, fun and friendship.  Challenger has invited any Highlanders that can attend to go along and participate in the games and help as 'buddies'.  Please contact David Goldschmidt if you can help out or would like more information.

Congratulations to Wayne Hrozek who will play baseball for Coach Bill Hamilton at Pensacola Junior College in Florida next year.  The Pirates were the 2004 Florida State Junior College Champions in 2004, and are known to be one of the most competitive junior college programs in the Southeast.  See all the 2005 Highlander signings .

Congratulations to Brice Ary on his decision to play baseball next year at Midland College in West Texas, most likely playing first base for Chapparal Head Coach Steve Ramharter. Alumni Update -- It was announced this week that Aaron Cook (TWHS '03) was selected second team All Pacific International League shortstop for his play this summer. The Pacific International League is an eleven team amateur wood bat league whose rosters are dominated by players from the Pac 10. In 147 at bats, Cook (who played for the Kelowna Falcons) hit .327 with 48 hits (6th in the league). 
On defense, Aaron finished second in the league with 104 assists. In addition, Cook recently received word that he had been recognized as an Academic All American and chosen to be a member of the Southland Conference Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for his work in the classroom his freshman year. Aaron will be attending Panola Junior College this season.

Alumni Update ... Aaron Cook (Woodlands, ’03) was selected to the all tournament team in the All-American Invitational in Portland, Oregon (July 15-18). In the five games of the tournament, Cook hit .438 (7 for 16) with a .563 slugging pct, and 5 RBI’s. The amateur tournament featured twelve teams from Northern California, Southern California, Idaho, British Columbia, and the Seattle and Portland areas. At stake in the tournament was an automatic berth in the National Baseball Congress (NBC) World Series in Wichita, Kansas in August. Cooks team, the Kelowna Falcons (B.C., Canada) was defeated in the finals by the host Aloha Knights by a score of 4-7. For complete tournament results visit www.alohaknights.com/aai

Highlanders Eliminated in Playoffs
After cruising early, the wheels came off of The Woodlands High School baseball team's playoff express as Cy Falls rallied for a 9-4 victory in game two on Saturday and then eliminated the Highlanders 12-7 in the third and deciding game.  Full Courier Story

Varsity (29-2) defeats Spring Lions 6-1 at Klein Oak Monday night to take the top play-off seed in District 15-5A.  Sophomore Kyle Drabek threw six strong innings for the win while Kyle Walker closed out the game in the seventh inning.  Home runs by Drabek and Wayne Hrozek were part of an 8 hit Highlander offense.  The Highlanders will play next on Friday in a practice game against Kingwoog HS.   BOX   NEWS

Varsity closes out District with a win over Conroe at home on Senior Appreciation Night at Scotland Yard Friday night.  Record extended to
28-2 and  13-1 in District. Cory Fowler (8-1) went the distance for the win, and was helped by home runs from Wayne Hrozek, Jordan Dodson and David Macias BOX   NEWS

Highlanders (27-2, 12-1) win 11-1 over Klein Forest in a 4:00 PM away contest at Klein Forest. Starter Kyle Drabek grabbed his first varsity win with closing support from Kyle Walker and Taylor Davis.  Offense included home runs from Drabek, David Macias and Danny Lehmann BOX   NEWS

Varsity downs Westfield 9-1 on Senior Citizens Night at Scotland Yard Friday.  Shea Robin and Kyle Drabek each homered, and Cory Fowler (7-1) went the distance for the win.  Record goes to 26-2 and 11-1 in District.  BOX   NEWS

After trailing most of the game, Varsity rallies in the late innings for a 10-7 away win over Klein.  David Macias homers as part of the come from behind rally.  Current record is 25-2 and 10-1 in District.  BOX   NEWS

Spring uses a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth to edge Varsity 5-4 and give the Highlanders their first District loss since 2002.  Record now stands at  24-2 overall and 9-1 in District.    BOX

2004 Challenger Day at Scotland Yard
The third annual Challenger Day at Scotland Yard was held on Saturday, April 10th, at 2:00 PM for the game between the Highlanders and Bellaire High School.

Varsity overpowers Bellaire 10-5 in non-district action on Saturday to go 23-1 overall.  Wayne Hrozek lead the offense going 3-4 with a grand slam.  Other home runs from Kyle Drabek and Shea Robin, who also got the win on the mound after relieving starter Taylor Davis.   BOX

Varsity stays undefeated in District (5-0, 19-1) with a 11-2 away win over the Westfield.Mustangs.  Taylor Davis went four innnings for the win, and helped out at the plate with a two run homerun in the third.  The Highlanders host Klein Forest at Scotland Yard on Friday night at 7:00 PM     BOX    NEWS

Highlander Baseball - 2004 First Pitch Banquet 
Highlander baseball kicked off the 2004 season with the annual First Pitch banquet on Sunday, Feb 15th.  The event was hosted by former Rice University standout Curtis Fox, and included special recognition of 2000 Highlander graduate Vincent Sinisi, member of the 2003 World Series Champions Rice Owls and now with MLB Texas Rangers.
